Outra coisa que me parece encantadora é a liberalidade com que Woolf usa as várias formas do gerúndio. Esse trechinho aqui achei especial:

Rezia, sitting at the table twisting a hat in her hands, watched him; saw him smiling. He was happy then. But she could not bear to see him smiling. It was not marriage; it was not being one’s husband to look strange like that, always to be starting, laughing, sitting hour after hour silent, or clutching her and telling her to write. 

Mais um trechinho que achei um encanto, tremendamente reforçado com a profusão de adjetivos e advérbios de modo, é quando Elizabeth está passeando de ônibus:

for a pirate it was, reckless, unscrupulous, bearing down ruthlessly, circumventing dangerously, boldly snatching a passenger, or ignoring a passenger, squeezing eel-like and arrogant in between, and then rushing insolently all sails spread up Whitehall. 

muito bonito isso aqui:  bearing down ruthlessly, circumventing dangerously, boldly snatching a passenger, sobretudo quando o segundo advérbio posposto praticamente se cola ao seguinte, anteposto ao verbo.
